LESSON OPTIONS
FINDING YOUR PATH IN A WORLD OF MUSIC
NQ Music Studio wants to supply every student with a complete, well-rounded education in music.
However, it is their priority to ensure that their students receive exactly the type of education they are willing to invest in.
To compromise the two ideals, and to optimize lesson time, we have created a collection of course/lessons options. To see all the lesson subjects available, click on the 'Lesson Menu' page or the 'Lessons Available' at the top of this page. Throughout lessons we might offer suggestions on which types of lessons the student should sign up for. However, it is ultimately up to the student, or their guardian, to decide which type of lesson they want and when they want to sign up.
Lesson plans at NQ Music Studio can be very specific and detailed in their structure, or they can be more free flowing; it is entirely up to the student to decide. Lessons will always emphasize musical self awareness and reflection. We also aim to challenge our students in ways that motivate and encourage their growth and advancement. We hope to lead each student to their own personal discovery of how music - as a powerful purveyor of creativity, healing, entertainment, and character building - can enrich all matters of life. Take a look at the selection of lessons within to get a sense of what would be best for you.
Find the "Lessons Available" service link at the top to schedule a lesson!

MUSIC THEORY LESSONS
When the student signs up for a music theory lesson, they can be assured that the lesson they receive will be specifically tailored to them and that the topics will be introduced at an appropriate pace. The fact of the matter is that, no matter what type of lesson one books on this website, music theory will be incorporated at some point because it is so relevant to everything in music. However, to ensure a thorough understanding of the subject matter, it is important to have some lessons that are solely focused on music theory. Each music theory lesson involves an interactive lecture explaining the theory and time devoted to putting that theory into practice.
These lessons include exercises, worksheets, and games.
EAR TRAINING LESSONS
Ear Training lessons are probably the most helpful form of training to musicians, no matter the primary instrument of their study. Ironically, and unfortunately, ear training happens to be the most neglected form of instruction from private music teachers. Though ear training does not necessarily employ an instrument, it will assist a person in learning ANY instrument or type of music. Lex goes over how to identify intervals, how to use solfege (Do Re Mi...) for sight-reading without an instrument, and eventually how to write, transcribe, and sight-read music by ear. This is an incredibly helpful skill in life. The sooner the student signs up for these types of lessons the better!

SONGWRITING & COMPOSITION
Want someone to keep you on track with your songwriting goals? Maybe you need some extra inspiration and/or songwriting coaching. Brian and Lex have been songwriting for years and have participated in many songwriting groups, workshops, and conferences. Whether you've written dozens of songs, or have never wrote a single tune in your life, they are prepared to help you unleash your inner melodies.
REPERTOIRE
Sign up for lessons that focus only on building up your repertoire. These lessons are great for the learners who might think "who needs a lesson plan when you have a piece of music to guide you to learn what you need to learn?" Let Lex or Brian work with you on perfecting a piece. Once your piece is polished, Lex and Brian will find ways for you to show the world your accomplishments.
